Terrarium

For our family home evening this week we talked about the things God created. I saw how to build a terrarium in a magazine and decided to give it a try. I found this tall glass vase at the thrift store for two dollars and the cute bunny in my cupboard both worked nicely.

Here's how to build your own.

You need:

  1. Gravel or small stone
  2. Clear container
  3. Activated charcoal (the kind for aquarium filters)
  4. Paper (for a funnel)
  5. Fresh potting soil
  6. Small succulent plants
  7. Ceramic figurine

Step 1- Add gravel as first layer of drainage system. Carefully spread out a 1 1/2" layer of activated charcoal over gravel.

Step 2- Using the paper as a funnel, add a layer of potting soil. Choose small plants like succulents. (Cacti and Jade I used Aloe)

Step 3- Add 3- 4 ounces of water to get started. Add stones as a pathway and a ceramic figurine.

That's a great idea! I wish I could do something like that with DS but I know DD will destroy it in a minute.

Lovely idea to make one in a vase. I used to have one with coleus in from my home town's park when they were changing the flower beds and were giving away the old plants for house plants.

Lovely blog and it's lovely to meet a fellow thrifter.
